How to Translate Sources:
Many of the sources listed below are in other languages. To translate these sources, I recommend the following:
Websites:
Use Google’s chrome browser. If a popup asking to translate doesn’t appear, click on the translate option in the browser’s address bar to the far right.
YouTube videos:
- Turn on closed captions (CC).
- Turn on the option to auto-translate the captions into English. (Note: this does not work well when the video has more than one foreign language being spoken.)
Telegram posts:
Open the post in the Telegram app on your computer. Right-click the post and choose “translate.” (For smartphones, copy-paste the text into a translating service.)
Note about Languages
A Russian-language source does not prove it is a pro-Russian source. The predominate language in Mariupol is Russian, and almost everyone in the 20 Days in Mariupol documentary (including the AP reporters, Ukrainian soldiers, and medics at the hospital) speak in Russian.

European Press Prize, written by AP News “20 Days in Mariupol” crew (Chernov and Maloletka): https://www.europeanpressprize.com/article/why-why-why-ukraines-mariupol-descends-into-despair/ Note: in this article, the child featured in this episode is mentioned twice: “the first child to die” and “among the first to die.” These conflicting claims support the idea that the AP News crew were creating narratives rather than reporting facts.
